Protecting Play

The United Nations enshrined play as a fundamental human right under Article 31 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The UN also established June 11th as the annual International Day of Play and mobilized global campaigns like “Protect Play, Protect Childhood” to secure safe spaces, learning resources, and time for children to play. In the US, several states have taken steps to recognize the need for play and have enacted laws to protect play and experiential learning. We believe children in New York deserve this protection as well.
